WELCOME ONE AND ALL.

Hey guys, I've moved some longer posts out of the comments and made them posts of their own. Some brilliant stuff about a huge range of groovy goodness.

It really helps me out if, when you start a new topic, you email it to me. Use the comments for responding to other people. Anyway- there is a bunch of good stuff below.

I'm halfway through reading "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth. So far it's really good but REALLY REALLY bleak. I'll let you know when I finish.

  4. I read Mary Shelly's Frankenstein in primary school and i really really enjoyed it. I've not read Dracula though so it might be interesting to study it instead of Frankenstein.

I really like old classics like the Hobbit and Wind in the Willows, Tom Sawyer...etc. I would really love to do something on them in English.

  7. I didn't actually watch the Wind in the Williows. I read it and i got to use my own imagination. I know what you mean Samera but some books are better of read and some are better of seen. The Wind in the willows is falls under better read.

  12. i just finished reading "the sirens of titan" by Kurt vonnegut whos saw the bombimg of dresdon. it was a strange book to me because the characters and the plot never really seem to go the way you think they would especially beatrice. the strange mr. winston niles rumfoord who enters a chrono-synclastic infundubilium with his dog now nows every thing that will happen and can read minds except he only appears on earth every 59 days as he is turned into energy which goes from the sun to belteguese. (please dont ask me where that is. i dont know myself)

Mr t asked me to talk about what the writer thinks about war from what is in this book as he did see the bombing of dresdon. i think he feels that war is not bad if afterwards the leaders know how to create a long lasting peace. but of course human beings are idiots so no leader can do this therefore we need a leader like rumfoord to do this but even he has his failings. but what we get from what rumfoord does, it seems that we all need someone to lie to us for us to band together and become one.(according to kurt vonnegut)
personally i think we just need a common threat or enemy to makes us one, as from the many extremely realistic comic books i've read and many real life happenings i'm not sure about i have learnt that people will always join together in destruction but hardly ever peace.

on a lighter note, kurt vonnegut's description of a chav on page 158 of this book is extremely accurate and suprising seeing as there were probably none of them around when it was written. "they wore baggy clothes to disguise their figure, styled their hair in the worst of ways, chewed gum excessively and used too many cosmetic products." it goes more or less like that and you'll agree it's bang on.
I'd really reccommend this as its a great read, makes you laugh & gets you to think about what you and those around you do with new understanding.
