Grace and I are both reading these 2 books which are similary in some ways and different in other ways. Im reading 'The Wasp Factory' by Iain Banks while she is reading 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath. Stay tuned while we discuss about these two great books. :D
Looking forward to this, I'm going to try and put aside how much I hated "Bell Jar" when I was your age and try to get over it.
ReplyDeleteWasp Factory id better though- GO WASPS!
This is my first blog. Sorry it took me a while to comment.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've finnished reading three chapters which have basically been the inoduction to characters.I really can't work out whether they are the main characters or not because each chapter seems to start of with something comletely new;We would be in hotel in the middle of the nigh and then suddenly move to a posh cafe eating caviar. (The pase is a bit fast) Its not very dramatic but its something i've noticed about Sylvia Plaths's writing so far.
However I do't think its a negative because she does the switching quite well and i always seem to get drawn and forget about the previous things.
Thats it for now, Grace
stay tuned for more...
Barbs?
ReplyDeleteok soz its late stupid computer broke dwn but its bak...
ReplyDeletethe main character tells us his age but not his name we find out his name from a different character. The main Frank Cauldhame has an unsual relationship with his dad--he doesnt even know his dad's age!
half of chapter 2 is dedicated to a gruesome despcription on how he kiled a rabbit..he blew it up! by the end of the chapter he admits to killing 3 people..his cousin Blyth, he younger brother Paul and this other girl called Esmerelda he claims its a stage ge was going through..u no suspect that he is responsible for their deaths..
Chapter 3 he seys things he hates are women(hw sexist can he get?!) and the sea. he hates women becus theu are weak, stupid and live in the shawdow of men and are nothing compared to men..he hates the sea becus it always fustrates him. In this chapter he seems to be more interactive it his dad...
thts it for now still readin
stay tuned for more...
I've been doing some reserach on Sylvia Plath and found out that she actually comitted sucide soon after she wrote the novel. It's quite an important fact because many people suspect that the novel is based on her own life experiences which is known as a semi-biographical novel.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I found this out because I was gradually getting bored of the novel as the plot seems to be driving very very slowly. So this fact alone revives my reading apetite and I look forward to playing CSI whiles reading.
That's it for now,
Stay tuned, Grace
Chapter 4 and onwards
ReplyDeleteThinks of himself as a state/country/city. Admitts tht part of him feels guilty about thekillings and that another part of him is racist probably because he hasn't met any coloured person...he goes for a run and there he reveals some mysteries abt himself-he hates his mum as she let social workers take his half brother Eric to a mental home. Also reveals tht he killed Paul(his younger brother)wen he was 8 and Paul was 5- they went for a walk there he saw a bomb left on the beach..so he told his brother to tap it wen he signals him..Paul did it and HE BLEW UP...Frank decided to act like the tortured, self blaming child to get away frm the concequences..
Chapter5..he killed Esmerelda(his cousin) wen she came over to stay with them..he let her fly up into the sky wen she was holding onto a kite..this guy is MESSED up...
